Saint-Jean-Port-Joli's
church, built in
1779,
is classified historic monument since 1963. One of the
greatest piece of architecture of Quebec religious
inheritance. Architect Chrysostome Perreault's coffer arch,
studded with 4,500 hand carved roses, stays one of the
most elegant.
The first lord, Philippe-Aubert De Gaspé, author of the
famous novel "
Les Anciens Canadiens", rests beneath the seigneurial bench. The
Easter cierge, the pulpit, and the statues were made by
different regional woodcarvers... The silver sanctuary lamp
was chisel by Renvoysé, the altar by François Baillargé
and the tarbernacle by Pierre-Noël Levasseur in carved
wood and covered with golden sheets... |
